Your pet will look as though they are falling asleep, but will usually have departed before the injection is even finished. The euthansol will be given through the IV catheter that was placed. Once you are ready, the veterinarian will return to the room with the euthansol (an anaesthetic drug used at a high concentration), usually dyed a noticeable colour. If you want a little bit more time with your furry family member, that is fine. Once the catheter is placed, your pet will be brought back to you in the room. If sedation is needed to make the process easier for your pet (the last thing we want is for them to be stressed) it would be given at this time as well. ![]() Once the exam is done of your loved pet, paperwork and payments are done, the veterinarian will more than likely bring your pet into the treatment room for a technician to place an IV catheter. All the paperwork and payments will be done before the procedure so that you do not need to worry about anything afterwards. If an exam is required first a veterinarian will come in, if not, our receptionist will find out your final decisions on ashes and clay paw print. Once here, our receptionists will have a room ready for you (on the rare occasional there might be a wait due to unforeseen circumstances). You make the trip to the veterinary hospital. By no means do you need to have a final decision made while on the phone, but it is best to know before your arrival at the clinic what your wishes will be. It is never an easy aspect of pet ownership often we try to avoid the idea altogether. Looking through photos is another way of remembering the beautiful memories- which can really help you celebrate their life instead of grieving their loss.Pet Euthanasia – What to Expect When You Make This Choice.You could choose to keep it private or even show family and friends to help them understand what you are going through. It is also a really lovely process to go through with your family and kids. Writing a special letter to your pet or writing up a little biography/eulogy can help with the healing.Donating your pets bedding/ jackets/ food/ medication ect to an animal shelter in memory of them.Contributing to a cause important to you by making a donation in your pets name.Having a memorial product made up in their memory, for example a glass orb, a photo canvas/artwork, a garden ornament, jewellery or even a tattoo.Somewhere that they loved (eg the beach, river, garden) or somewhere that allows you to visit them such as your garden, or a special memorial pet garden (eg at Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge). Choosing a special place to scatter your pets ashes.Setting up a special place in the garden dedicated to your pet by planting a tree or burying their ashes.You could include things such as photos, their collar/lead/bandana, their paw print, sympathy cards from family and flowers. Lighting a candle and/ or setting up a special memorial area in your home can be a nice way to keep their memory with you.There are so many lovely ways to celebrate the life of your beloved family member.
